Are the local BC lotteries actually legit?

I read someone mentioned about them knowing someone winning a big prize in a local lottery (VGH or something) and he was connected to the committee or sponsors, and he won in another one. Now I am having second thoughts about joining because although it is for a good cause, the tickets aren’t that cheap if they’re not legit 😅
