Random Unexpected Side Trips from Original Japan Trip Itinterary.

Note: Been to japan many times already just want to see people experience and such.

Just want to ask people, first timers or even returning japan goers, so lets say you have your daily itinerary and such, your walking to point A to point B in your itinerary.

How often do you get amazed or distracted by random stores and or attractions when walking to the next destination in Japan?

Reason why I am asking this, is I want to know is that when people make there daily itinerary, how often did you had to re - adjust your itinerary due to the random unexpected side trips or attractions, I mean this in a good way.
