Follow along books for teens

Just had a meeting with the school and they suggested a school app called learning ally that essentially is audiobook but you can read along while listening. My son who is 12 said the books they have ‘suck’ and obviously well censored considering you have to read it/follow along on chrome book.

I have kindle app and numerous library apps but is there another program that has more ‘interesting’ books or even more variety of books that has the same concept, I.e. follow along while it reads to you?
