Osmo Mobile 8 suddenly not working properly

My new Osmo Mobile 8 is driving me crazy.

I used it a couple times with no issues and then put it away for about a week. Now I’m trying to use it again and the gimbal just won’t work properly.

It won’t let me select any modes. I keep getting the motor protection warning, and every time I double click the trigger it just starts moving wildly instead of leveling. It never settles or returns to a normal position.

Nothing changed between uses. Same phone, same setup, no drops or damage.

Has anyone dealt with this before or found a fix? Is there some kind of reset or calibration I’m missing, or did it just decide to die while sitting in a drawer?
