AITA: got broken up with over Christmas Dinner

Im a 48 yr old F who was dating a 60 year old man for 3.5 years. The week before Christmas his sister called to tell me her FIL was being put on hospice. I expressed sympathy & shared how I could help with her younger child. I then texted my BF suggesting we host Christmas Dinner since his sister - who usually hosts - had a lot on her plate. I said me and my mom would help cook. I was reprimanded and screamed at. I was told by offering his home - which I only suggested to just him- no one else - I was not protecting him and his peace. He then ended things over a text when I missed his phone call.
