Best practice for moving VMs/DAS to new server and OS

Question

I am preparing to move from my aging r720 to a newer r740 setup and plan to install a new, clean instance of proxmox on the new server and then move the das disks over which contain all data and VMs.

From what I can tell once the hardware is moved I will need to import all my zfs arrays and then restore the VMs. The zfs import seems straight forward enough, the VM restore seems less so. My current plan is to backup all the VM configs, copy them over and just restore?

Does this sound like the best way to move?
