Folk style hand lock rules

This is my first year wrestling in highschool and in my life. When I’m on the ground and I get a front head lock can I lock my hands together as long as they have an arm in? One coach encourages it but when I look it up it’s a ton of different answers. I really like doing gator roll/cement mixer while locking my hands or just using it for control before switching to an underhook.
