Do I bring it up, and if so, how?

My boyfriend and I (both 24 y/o) have been together a relative short period of time (around 4 months) and as of now I have no complaints. He is honest, loyal, consistent, supportive, and there are little red flags. I come from a home where I did not have a father or any male role model or aunts or uncles or cousins my life so I decided a very long time ago that I must be with a mane who come comes from a more "complete" home (with cousins, and mother and father, etc) as that is what I would want for my children.

Today, we had our usual call and he off-handedly mentioned he was going to his "moms house." This confused me as up until now I had assumed he lived with both mother and father and siblings in one home. In fact, we've talked about his parents before and he told me they've been together for over 20 years and things like that (with the typical complications that come with immigrant marriages). But today I come to find out his mom has a house in one place and his dad has another place about 30 minutes away. I asked why that was and he explained it (pretty openly?) as a matter of rent-control, landlords, and family from back home (not USA) being in his dads place. But he also mentioned his parents don't see each other all that often and thats just the way thing are. I am now wondering are his parents separated? Do they love each other? Is there a deeper reality I am not aware of?

Obviously, these are a lot of heavy and very personal questions that, one could argue, are really none of my business. However, I am trying to be intentional about dating in alignment with what it is I want long-term and if there is any "love complication" I would like to know before things get too far. Is it fair to ask? Am I right to feel uneasy? I'm not entirely sure.
