Feeling brushed off while he’s on a trip
I’ve been seeing someone going on 7 months now. He’s currently on a trip this week, which is a big deal for him as he goes every year and invests heavily into it.
This week has been stressful for me with school stress, a health scare which resulted in going to the hospital early in the morning and other personal stuff. When I tried to tell him that my week hasn’t been great, it wasn’t really acknowledged. For the most part, whenever I explain that my day isn’t going well, it tends to get brushed aside. But on the other hand, if he has an issue whether it’s personal, work or health related I immediately try to be encouraging, offer solutions, or help him work through it even if I don’t exactly relate to his struggle I try to be empathetic.
I feel even a small message of support would have been fine, like “hope you’re okay” or “that sounds rough” just something to show he heard me. Instead, the conversation just shifted immediately back to his trip and what he’s doing today. It really hurt to feel like my struggles weren’t being recognised.
I tried to make myself feel better by doing things I normally enjoy, but it fell flat and I ended up breaking down on the way home in public. Later, he messaged asking if I was okay and told me he was going to dinner. I replied with “I’m doing okay, but for now I need space” and “enjoy your dinner.” I needed space because I knew that if I tried to communicate while in my state of mind, I might say something I’d regret later on.
He’s not due back until the weekend, and I’m unsure how or when to explain my feelings to him. Should I wait until he’s back? How do I communicate this without it turning into an argument?
