Help! Diagnostic Impression bi-rad 3

BREAST COMPOSITION: The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses.

FINDINGS:

There is a new 0.6 cm asymmetry right subareolar region seen only in the craniocaudal projection. This partially dissipates on spot compression. No correlating abnormality is seen in the MLO projection or on a full-field lateral series.

There is an asymmetry in the left upper breast MLO projection. This largely dissipates on spot compression, but is visible on full-field lateral series. No definite correlating abnormality is seen in the craniocaudal projection. This correlates with the benign-appearing cyst on subsequent ultrasound.

The remainder both breasts are otherwise unremarkable with no mass, suspicious calcifications or other abnormalities elsewhere.

ULTRASOUND:

TECHNIQUE: A bilateral breast ultrasound was performed using a high-frequency linear transducer. Targeted ultrasound was performed.

FINDINGS:

Targeted right breast ultrasound shows no cyst or solid mass in the area of asymmetry on the mammogram.

At 11:00 in the left breast 4 cm from the nipple, there is a 0.5 x 0.2 x 0.5 cm benign-appearing cyst within a band of fibroglandular tissue. This correlates with the asymmetry in the right upper breast on the mammogram.

At 12:00 in the left retroareolar region, there is a 0.6 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm benign-appearing complex cyst.

No abnormality is identified area of focal breast pain as pointed out by the patient.

I rescanned the patient myself and confirmed the findings.

IMPRESSION:

An asymmetry in the central right breast in the craniocaudal projection partially dissipates on spot compression with no corresponding abnormality in the MLO or lateral projection and no corresponding abnormality on ultrasound. The findings are felt to be probably benign, most likely representing focal fibroglandular tissue. Short interval follow-up is recommended.

An asymmetry in the left upper breast in the MLO projection correlates with benign-appearing cysts on ultrasound.

The mammogram is otherwise unremarkable with no suspicious mass, suspicious calcifications or other abnormalities elsewhere.

RECOMMENDATION: Next imaging in 6 months.

A six-month follow-up right diagnostic mammogram

ASSESSMENT: BI-RADS Category 3: Probably benign.
