TikTok vs YouTube

Marketing

I've been weighing the pros and cons of these platforms for the needs to creating a pre existing social media brand before publishing my book

I've been thinking about TikTok I've been thinking about cost benefit analysis

TikTok is appealing to me because with short form content it's just below the threshold of where you would need to meaningful organize my ideas which I feel would be the biggest amount of effort of the process.

another benefit is that TikTok is a somewhat less saturated market and it would be easier to gain a moderate level of engagement. whereas with youtube i imagine it would be harder to create a channel from the ground floor with video you put more effort into.

but on the other hand I feel a problem is that it's harder to create a truly meaningful level of engagement.

there's this game theory video where matt pat explains that the people he was hiring for TikTok social media struggled to name their favorite TikTokers because the TikTok algorithm creates a passive experience defined by the algorithm vs YouTube defined by subscribing to your favorite Creators.

and with me I've been thinking it's hard for me to think of TikTokers who want to market their own book in a position of cultural relevance.

whereas I can with a few YouTubers. for example terrible writing advice I've had people recommend him to me, I've seen videos critiquing his book.

and the YouTuber the second story I find other YouTubers responding to her "hot takes"

and while there social media success hasn't translated into book success I fell it's a important step
