The Demogorgon had real aura. It hunted, stalked, killed on screen. Every appearance carried weight. You *felt* the danger.

The Mind Flayer mostly just turned people into goo and made Will dig tunnels in his sleep. Big body count, sure, but it was abstract. Less menace, more mass melting.

The final form was a cool idea on paper — Henry, the Upside Down, and our world fused into an ancient, fleshy entity — but it never earned its power. It couldn’t kill a group of kids. So how exactly was it meant to take over the world?

It genuinely feels like there was a missing episode between the second-last and last episodes. One where Henry actually raises the stakes. Where the Mind Flayer is fully unleashed and feels truly OP.

Instead, Eleven feels like Henry’s equal — maybe even stronger. And I get why. She trained every season, learned control, survived hell, earned her power. But if the final villain is meant to be the end of everything, parity isn’t enough.

And sure, maybe Henry didn’t account for Will and Eleven’s sister forming a trio. But that still doesn’t make the threat feel absolute.

What really bugs me is this: in season 2, the Mind Flayer was *far* more terrifying as a non-physical entity. It possessed people, planted slugs, infiltrated minds, stayed hidden and untouchable. Why would Henry abandon that advantage to build a physical body that can be damaged by Molotovs and a flamethrower?

The moment it became tangible, it became beatable. And once that happens, the fear drains out of it.
