Smooth Driving with a New Clutch
I had to get towed to a garage earlier this week because my clutch went completely and I couldn't put it in gear without the engine sounding severely laboured. Changing gear was completely out of the question.
I got the clutch replaced, along with a wishbone with a hole in it (that really should have been picked up at the recent MOT), and drove it home a few days later.
That drive was probably the least smooth drive I've ever had, apart from maybe my first few driving lessons. I stalled about 5 times, when normally I don't stall at all.
Moving off was an ordeal full of lurching forward and depressing the clutch before it stalled, then lifting it again with another lurch, after which it was time to change into 2nd (bang), and on and on and on...
My question is this: is there any way to get used to a new clutch faster than just driving it and getting used to it over time? Or am I looking for a shortcut where there isn't one?
