AITA for flashing my two friends’ husbands on New Years Eve?
Disclaimer this happened 10 years ago but I think about it every NYE now. It’s kind of a long story so I’m gonna try to be brief.
Basically 15ish years ago I worked with 2 women and we became good friends, they were both married. About 5 years into our friendship we took a NYE trip together to a neighboring state to go to a show, and we got a hotel room together.
Around 11:55pm I said I was stepping into the stairwell to call my boyfriend at the time who lived a few states away. While I was on the phone with him he broke up with me. When I went back into the hotel room I explicitly said “guys I just got broken up with, I’m gonna go to bed.” My two friends said awww I’m so sorry girl and stuff like that, and then one of my friends’ husband goes “well anyone who doesn’t want to fuck you is out of their mind.” I get this was to be nice kind of but this guy had been harassing me for years every time I was around him. He would make comments about my tits being nice and ask me “what that mouth do?” every time I saw him. He did all this IN FRONT OF his wife and she never said anything to him.
So I go to lay down with my back facing them while they’re playing cards on the other bed, and the two husbands start pelting me with red solo cups and playing cards saying “you can’t go to sleep, play cards with us.” I tell them no like eight times saying I’m upset and just want the night to be over and please let me fucking sleep. Then they start shaking me, shaking the bed, and hitting me with balls of crumpled up paper from the notepad they were keeping score on. Finally the what that mouth do guy says “if you show us your tits we’ll let you sleep.” And the other one agrees like “yeah show us your boobs and you can sleep.”
Neither of my friends say ANYTHING during all of this. One of them really quickly says something like “let her sleep” while they were pelting me with solo cups BEFORE they tell me to show them my boobs.
So they say that and I’m like no let me sleep, I’m not showing anyone my boobs. And they just keep fucking going. Show us your boobs show us your boobs and on and on and on. They’re bouncing on the bed shaking me and finally I’m like are you serious? Will you REALLY let me sleep if I show you my boobs? And they both say yes so I just sit up on the bed and flash them and roll back over and try to go to sleep. They were like wooo boobs and then stopped harassing me and that was kind of it. Neither of my friends said anything during the whole exchange.
So like five weeks later at work one of them pulls me aside and is like “hey me and (other friend) feel like what happened on NYE really crossed a line.” I’m like ummmm I agree it did cross a line, your husbands were harassing me and neither of you fucking said anything. It kind of fizzled and she was just like yeah okay and things were weird at work after that, we stopped hanging out and that was the end of it.
But I think about this every fucking New Years Eve and for years was so ashamed that I flashed my friends husbands, that is not something I’d ever normally do, I had never even flashed anyone before. But I was fucking sad and just wanted to face the wall and cry. I should have got my own hotel room in retrospect but I was making 8 dollars an hour and that would have just been unfathomable to me at that time to spend money on my own room. I also couldnt go home bc we carpooled in my friends van. Maybe I could have Ubered home but tbh I’ve never had Uber and I don’t even know if it was really a thing back then.
I’ve always been ashamed of flashing my friends husbands that night so I never told anyone this story except my best friend at he time and years later my husband. But I think about it every year on New Year’s Eve and feel like I was kind of backed into a corner. If my friends had said “hey no I’m not comfortable with her flashing you” I wouldn’t have done it but neither of them said anything or tried to get their husbands to leave me alone and let me sleep and I just wanted the fucking day to be over. I honestly don’t know how I could have handled this situation differently without spending money I didn’t have to go home or get my own room. I recently told a new friend about this and she said “any reasonable person would agree that you are not the villain in this story.” I feel like if this is true that would really alleviate a lot of guilt I’ve felt over the last decade about this situation.
