How are my teammates shooting lasers, throwing eggs and turning into tornados?

I was just playing a quest and one of my teammates was doing some crazy stuff. They were doing things like shooting lasers and throwing a bunch of cartoony eggs at the monster then when the quest ended they turned into their green tornado thing. I had never seen anything like it before.

Was that from an event cause I must have missed it or something?
