What made Mariska begin wearing an additional earring on the show starting in Season 18?

She has been doing this since Season 18. I've nothing against it though, actually, I think it looks awesome on her. Sometimes, she even wears two additional earrings.

I'm just surprised she waited until Season 18 to do so. She first did this in Tequila and Bonetti, a short-lived CBS Police Drama.
