Corporate VPN potential culprit of slow work laptop?

Open | Networking

I have two laptops for work because I work in social media and one client is very protective of their social media accounts and they provide a laptop just for them.

So with that said, my company laptop isn’t super locked down and is just some Lenovo Ideapad. Nothing special and the most basic spec, probably a $400 laptop. It runs whatever I do fine, sure it’s not the fastest but it’s relatively snappy.

My client specific laptop is a HP ZBook Workstation with a AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 8640HS and 760M graphics. This laptop runs like shit. Anything system related seems very snappy like alt tabbing or going through settings, opening basic programs, but anything in the browser (where I do 99% of my work) is so bad. Multiple times throughout the day I lost connection and need to refresh and sometimes webpages won’t load for 15-30 seconds. It’s crazy.

I have 1gb fiber internet although I haven’t tried on ethernet yet, but I have a Ubiquiti AP within 10 feet of where I work with a direct LoS and can confidently say it’s not a home internet issue.

Is there anything I can do? Any way to optimize the VPN? Contact IT? Is the VPN not even the problem and there’s something else I can do?
