I don't have any friends
I was recently diagnosed with AuDHD, and it explains a lot about me. I am 23, just made it through a big burnout (still kind of feeling it though), and am getting back into schooling which I had to pause hard on due to where I was at mentally. But one thing I really want to try this semester is make friends.
I don't have any friends currently. I know people, occasionally chat with people I knew in high school, but I wouldn't say I have close friends or even consider those high school people friends. Just simply because I am a very different person then I was when I knew them. And to be honest, maintaining relationships has been hard for me to do.
Specifically, in my opinion, because I was in a relationship. We were together for 4 years, but we broke up a few months ago. So that was where a lot of my social energy went. That and trying to get through school which has been insanely difficult for me.
It wasn't until we split that I realized how small my social circle is. They were my best friend for those 4 years, and I regret not trying to make more friends while in the relationship, but I know why I didn't want to. Adding relationships when you're drowning in your life and expectations make it hard to add any new change. Even if it would be good change.
The reason why I write all of this is because I want to ask, can anyone else relate to this? For those that managed to make friends, what helped you be able to? How'd you get there? I've started therapy and am trying to work on my social skills, I just feel like sometimes things seem a little bleak. Like I'm scared that I'll consider to be lonely for a while, and I don't want that. Thank you for reading this far
