Teachers of Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Deaf/HoH with questions

I’m on medical leave from my current job teaching Kindergarten while deaf and unbalanced. It’s driven me crazy trying to pretend I’m healthy and normal just like everyone else. Also there’s been quite a few episodes of ableism that the principal poo pooed. I contacted the union.

I might have this opportunity to open a 3-5 Deaf and Hard of hearing class next year in a different district. It would be a lot of work, taking classes after work and all those IEPs. I’m a beginner at ASL and taking classes. They said they could hire an interpreter. I realize it’s not the ideal for the kids but I want to teach my people.

What’s it like?
