AITA for getting upset at a guy I just met about my SA?
I (19f) have been talking to this guy (25m) for almost a month now, so obviously we’re still getting to know each other. We’ve gone out, but we haven’t made anything official despite us both being really into each other.
Before I met him, I’d decided to start dating older guys because guys my age are too immature for me. So, you can understand why I would be upset that he’s rarely ever serious. I’ve never felt so strongly about a guy before, so I’ve let him slide before. I can’t remember the exact things he’s said, but I’ll just say he can’t read a room or doesn’t want to.
Recently, I’ve been feeling pretty down about how I’ve been treated in the past by men and what I’ve done to encourage that unhealthy behavior. These past few days I’ve been kind of spiraling, so I’ve been texting and telling him things that were kind of hinting that I wasn’t feeling great. Ex: “I’m such a whore,” “I like that you care about me for more than my body,” “I regret so many things I’ve done for attention,” “Talking to you makes me remember I never had to show my body to people I don’t know for them to like me,” “I’m making myself sad”. You get the idea. I understand now that this was an immature way to reach out for help from him.
But an hour ago, I brought it up again. He finally asked what was wrong. He was building up this safe space for me to tell him, so I did. I was really scared of sounding like some victim, so I started off with telling him how much I appreciated that he liked me for so much more than my body. And then he says:
“idk what gave u that idea send tits”
(This convo was over text, by the way, and I understand that texts can get misinterpreted.)
I told him, “that’s not funny,” because I was extremely upset. I tried to ignore his texts, but he was sending so many so quickly right after each other. I open the messages because I felt bad. Instead of mature apologies, he kept squeezing in his little jokes. I absolutely blew up.
I replied to him telling him that it wasn’t funny how I was trying to tell him about my assault and blah blah, and then I called him a “fucking idiot” and asked “why can’t you ever be serious?”.
Then he got really upset and defended himself by saying that I couldn’t talk to him like that. That he would’ve never known that was the direction I was going. I felt really bad about this because he’s right. But I told him that he knew I was upset, and it didn’t matter what I was going to say, he should respect my vulnerability in sharing my feelings.
I ended up apologizing profusely, and we went back to our normal convos. But I can’t find the same energy or passion I had in talking to him like I have before.
So, AITA for getting upset? (Sorry this is so long, I like writing.)
