Communication in game on PS5

I see so many videos where people are playing with strangers and you hear communication back-and-forth and if someone gets down by another raider, you hear them go back-and-forth. I have been playing this game since lunch and I barely ever hear anything and I’m wondering if my audio settings are screwed up? I have tried everything I feel like and it’s really ruining the experience of the game for me because I’m finding it impossible to communicate with anyone. What am I doing wrong?
