Can we just appreciate how Expedition 33 is basically "Prestige" comfort food?

I feel like I’m the only one who isn’t worried about the "innovation" discourse around this game. Honestly, I’m actually hyped that Sandfall isn't trying to be "different." It’s so rare to see a studio pour this much money into a game that’s basically a high-res tribute to everything we’ve already played before.

Usually, when a game looks this good, you expect some kind of overwhelming complexity, but Expedition 33 feels like it’s going to be so wonderfully predictable. Like, the combat looks so "classic"—it’s essentially the Paper Mario / Mario & Luigi timing system but with a $100 million coat of paint. It’s the perfect setup for when you’re tired after work and don’t want a game to actually challenge your reflexes or make you learn a new system. You just see the shiny prompt, you click it, and you get rewarded with a movie-quality animation. It’s super low-friction.

And the world design? It’s stunning. It has that very specific "linear corridor" beauty that I’ve missed. You don't have to worry about getting lost or exploring too much because the path is so clearly laid out for you. It’s basically a guided tour of a French art gallery where you occasionally fight something. It’s so refreshing to have a game that prioritizes looking like a cinematic masterpiece over having to manage 50 different "deep" RPG layers or branching narratives that actually matter.

It’s honestly the ultimate game for the "second screen" generation. You can just soak in the UE5 environments and let the familiar mechanics wash over you without ever really having to focus. It’s basically a $70 screensaver that you can interact with sometimes. I’m just glad we’re finally getting a game that admits that sometimes, style is more important than substance. It’s gonna be the best game to play while I’m catching up on my backlog of podcasts.

Anyone else just ready to turn their brain off and look at the pretty colors?
