Expert Opinion
Hello, Electricians.
I know nothing about this but was wondering if someone can come up with a theory about what happened. I had a kitchen GCFI outlet 120V 15A. On the bottom plug (that looks burned) I had an on/off switch plug(1875W) which received a plug from a Toaster (1535W)
Been using this for a whole year without issue and then this week we smelled burnt plastic. When I unplugged everything this is what I found. The GCFI outlet didnt trip (not that I expect it to right?)
I'm wondering the following:
- did the on/off switch fail?
- did the GCFI plug itself fail?
- and what kind of event if anything could make anything burn/fail like this.
I thought I checked everything including the Watts on the devices to make sure it could handle everything. This is not a DIY question, more of a postmortem.
Thank you.
