high functioning illnesses ?

hi all !! i recently picked up & revamped an old thriller i was crafting . id like to include characters w disabilities or chronic illnesses but would absolutely want to portray them accurately . i myself am chronically ill , but relatively high functioning considering the circumstances . i had some action scenes in mind for the story , but dont want to make it unrealistic for the characters supposed abilities . any advice would be helpful !!
