Ethereum Outlook in 2026: Glamsterdam, Heze-Bogota, and the Road to 10,000 TPS
Ethereum is gearing up for what could be one of its most significant development years yet in 2026 — with two major network upgrades planned that aim to reshape how the protocol scales and protects users.
According to our reporting, the 2026 roadmap includes:
- A Glamsterdam hard fork expected around mid-2026 that introduces parallel transaction processing, higher gas limits, and better validator efficiency. These changes could boost Ethereum’s base layer throughput far beyond its current ~21 transactions per second (TPS) toward projections near 10,000 TPS with increased gas capacity and advanced execution logic.
- A Heze-Bogota hard fork later in the year focused on privacy enhancements and censorship resistance, making the network more robust against centralized interference and improving permissionless access.
These upgrades build on 2025 improvements and are part of Ethereum’s long-term strategy to support:
- cheaper and faster base layer settlement
- dramatically higher Layer-2 scaling potential (hundreds of thousands of TPS)
- more decentralization and resistance to censorship
The end goal is a more scalable and secure ecosystem that can better accommodate DeFi, NFTs, gaming, and other high-traffic use cases.
