Is it safe to use Windows 8.1 for home media server?

I have an old laptop that is running Windows 8.1. I want to use it to host my home media server to run movies, tv shows etc. Is it safe to use Windows 8.1 in terms of virusses and hackers, etc, or do I need to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 (if possible)? I will use Emby for the server.

Edit:

I installed Ubuntu on the laptop
