I paid a business for a job in advance, they didn't do it, and now I'm suing them but don't know what to say.

Small Claims Procedure

Location: Florida

I paid a business LLC to do a job in August 2025. August 1st I reserved and paid 50% of the job. August 2nd, I noticed they overcharged me by a rude amount so I cancelled and found a different business.

They still have not refunded me.

The business contract states they will keep 8% for cancellations. Fine. I am not disputing that. The business is attempting to keep 100% of what I paid, the 50% of the total job.

I have a small claims court date coming up and am so exhausted after battling them for months on this. The other layer to this is I am visibly autistic, so I feel they are absolutely taking advantage of me there based on a few comments they have made.

What do I do? I understand Reddit likes to be witty but I could really use some kind words or some advice here.
