parking tips for gza: celebrating 30 years of liquid swords featuring phunky nomads at house of blues new orleans (new orleans 01/14)
hey figured i'd share some parking advice for the gza show on 01/14. the house of blues is right there in the french quarter/cbd area and parking can be a real headache, honestly the worst part of going to a show there, especially if you get caught up in the traffic chaos right before the 7:00 pm start time.
the absolute easiest thing i've found is using an app called prked. people who live right next to the house of blues rent out their driveways or garage spots for the night. it's usually way cheaper than the public garages and you get to skip all the traffic trying to get into a packed lot. you just park in your reserved spot and take a short, easy walk to the venue. it lets you reserve it ahead of time so you know you have a guaranteed spot.
if you prefer a garage, the house of blues has a deal with a specific premium parking location. it's lot p145 at 716 iberville street. they usually validate it to make it $15 for up to 8 hours, which is a really good deal for that area. you typically need to use a promo code like "hobnola24" when you book on the premium parking app, so check that site first. they also partner with parkwhiz, so that's another reliable app option for booking ahead.
besides that official one, there are tons of other lots and garages like the one at 300 n peters st (p402) or 500 decatur st (p401) that you can find on spothero or similar apps. just know these other ones can get expensive fast, sometimes running $30 or more for an event night and they definitely fill up early. reserve ahead of time if you go this route, so you're not circling.
for street parking, since it's a tuesday (01/14), metered parking is enforced until 7:00 pm. the rate is $3/hour in the french quarter/cbd. this means if you roll up right at 7:00 pm, you're free, but if you get there at 6:00 pm you'll need to pay for one hour. however, honestly, i wouldn't even bother trying to find street parking. it's nearly impossible to find a legal spot, and the fines for parking too close to a driveway, fire hydrant (within 15 feet), or on the neutral ground are really high. you don't want your night ruined by a $40 or $75 ticket.
so yeah, plan to arrive early to beat the traffic, have your parking pre-booked on prked or one of the garage apps, and then you can relax and enjoy the liquid swords set. hope this helps!
