Act 2: Fear within Expedition 33

SpoilerDiscussion

Currently replaying through the game, doing the visages axion and I was thinking about how the game does such a good job at selling you on the danger of this world. It sets up the player to have an instinctual fear for much of the world because it so early on shows the threat. It's something that other media I like also does, attack on titan and Jujutsu Kaisen being the first examples I can think of. All of them have a scene extremely early on where the people in the world are shown to be almost powerless when attacked by the world's creatures. In AOT, it was during the battle of trost where multiple characters died extremely easily to the Titans. JJK had it in episode 3 against the finger bearer. I think E33 does it both in the dark shore and during the Eveque fight. The dark shore is obvious, almost the entire expedition is immediately slaughtered by Renoir and the nevrons there without any chance of fighting back. The Eveque fight is a bit more interesting as it's a small moment but seeing the guy (forgot his name) get so quickly and easily murdered continues that sense of tension. I also think Gustav's death is the final key moment in setting this up as it ensures the player knows main characters are not safe either. I just thought this was an interesting thing I noticed and an example of really good writing from the creators.
