Never had friends before but girl on Hinge may give me the opportunity to gain some. Help.

Hi, I’m an 18 year old college student on the other side of the country from where I grew up.

I have always struggled with making friends, idk I just keep to myself and read so it’s probably mostly my fault. I have never dated before or anything like that. So I figured moving away for college would be a nice fresh start. I’ve been here for 4 and a half months and well it’s still really hard.

I have all of 1 friend and he’s back home so I try and talk to him frequently. Anyways, I joined Hinge and idk why I’m embarrassed by that but I am embarrassed. I’ve gotten matches and chatted but always leads nowhere.

I bounced around in the foster care system my whole life so I’m very blessed to have been able to go to college and probably contributes to me not being able to make friends easily because I moved schools a lot.

I’m just so lonely and I’ve never really felt loved before

A few days ago I matched with this girl 19f and the chat was going good and all until she finally said “I don’t know if we would work out, we don’t have much in common I’m sorry” and ofc I’m understanding of it and so I said “okay” and decided that was great opportunity to trauma dump which I know is fucked up and i immediately apologized.

She said “it’s okay, it sounds like you need a hug. Look if you want to my friends and I are having a small get together at our apartment in a few days, we are going to order some pizza and just chat if you’d like to come. I don’t want to lead you on though, this is strictly a friend asking a friend to come over.” I’m overjoyed and it’s embarrassing how excited I am but I’m also super nervous. I don’t know if I’ll have anything in common with anyone there, I’m scared I’ll stick out and feel unwelcome.

How do I act normal? How do I make friends through this?
