Dianpeng and wechat help？

Travelling to China for 2 weeks next week, last year I went to Shenzhen for a day via hk and found alot of restaurants in the malls deals required Dianping. This time is it possible to sign up for dianping using my uk number and then travel to china will it work, Or is it exclusive to Chinese numbers? If that's the case is it purely for Chinese people with ID or buying a China number with sns enough to sign up?
