Dad was quite wealthy when he passed away last year and I sure miss him. He left most everything to my stepmother. I may be an adult at 22 years-old, but my trust fund doesn’t kick in until I’m 24.(Gee thanks dad). So I’m riding out the next 2 years here with my stepmom, Silvia. While she’s not quite the proverbial ‘wicked stepmother’, she sure loves making my life a living hell and reminding me daily what a burden I am to her.

I am quite shocked when she tells me how you and she quickly entered into a marriage of convenience: combining assets to make both of your business ventures prosperous. To save face you are moving into our house this weekend.

“Silvia, you can’t do this.” I argue with her after receiving the news. “This is my dad’s house!”

“Was.” Silvia corrects “this WAS your dad’s house child. It’s mine now. And I will have whomever I please here.”

Silvia backs me against the couch until I loose my footing and find myself staring up into her demanding face. With her finger pointed down at me she continues. “Now, while you are under this roof, I expect you to obey the household authority and that now includes your Stepdaddy, understood!?” I take a deep breath and think to myself ‘just 2 more year’ “Yes, ma’am” I concede. …

The doorbell rings Saturday morning and Silvia barks at me, “Don’t just stand there Anna, get the door!”

I quickly run to the front door knowing it’s you, my new ‘Stepdaddy’, but I could never be prepared for how my world is about to be turned upside down. Your marriage to my stepmom is a marriage of convenience and she knows that. One of the things she offered you to sweeten the pot: Me! And you are ready to claim me completely.
