What if we’re playing the wrong game?

For a long time I thought I was just bad with women. Turns out I wasn’t bad, I was just operating from a completely broken mental state. I was polite, respectful, emotionally available, patient. I listened. I didn’t pressure. I tried to “build connection”. And somehow I still ended up feeling small, replaceable and weirdly ashamed after most interactions. Rejection didn’t even hurt because I lost the girl, it hurt because it felt like proof that something about me was fundamentally off. What I didn’t realize back then is that I wasn’t dating, I was kinda auditioning. Every interaction was me quietly asking “is this okay?” and hoping she’d approve(why would i even beg for her approval??) . I wasn’t choosing anyone, I was trying not to be disqualified. Once you see that, you can’t unsee it. That mindset alone turns men into beggars without them ever saying a word. The worst part is how subtle it is. You stop asking real questions and ignore red flags. You don’t even notice if you like her or not. All your attention goes into managing impressions and reading signals. You call it being chill or respectful, but deep down you’re just scared to assert yourself because you’ve been taught that initiative is something you give to women, not something you use to filter for yourself. My shift didn’t come from some pickup trick or confidence mantra bs. It came from realizing that attraction dynamics are closer to strategy than morality. Power, choice, leverage, self-respect. Stuff nobody explains because it sounds uncomfortable. A book i ran into at the time helped me frame it properly, not in a manipulative way, but in a “stop lying to yourself about how humans work” way. Similar to the way Robert Greene talks about dynamics, minus the theatrics. Once i stopped trying to win approval and started acting from a place of selection, everything changed. Not magically, not overnight, but the constant anxiety disappeared. Rejection stopped feeling personal and dates stopped feeling like tests. I started walking away earlier, speaking more directly, and weirdly enough, caring less about outcomes while getting better ones. Most men don’t need better lines or more confidence. They need to stop playing the wrong game. If you treat yourself like a candidate, the world will too. If you act like someone who chooses, people feel it instantly and i gurantee, they will treat you differently.
