How safe is cataract surgery for senior dogs?

My aunt has a dog who's 11. He's developed cataracts very suddenly and the vet we consulted examined him to find his retina is intact. Did a full body scan bec his regular vet told us he had heart issues and anaesthesia might be a problem during surgery but the reports show nothing. We need to take a decision fast as it's getting worse day by day and it's heartbreaking to see him bumping into furniture and walls. He's confused and panicked. We're sure he still has a life ahead of him but my aunt is really paranoid about the process and is only thinking of things going down south in the OT. Please please share any kind of experience with us, it'll be really helpful and encouraging and help us make the decision with confidence.
