AITA for wanting to go no contact with my toxic and emotionally manipulated mother?

I (32f, single parent) live with my mother along with my young son, who has lived here since birth. I work full time and have continued working even while struggling with depression and burnout.

My relationship with my mother has always been difficult, but over time it’s become emotionally exhausting. She regularly ignores my boundaries, involves herself in my parenting, and makes decisions that affect my mental health without consulting me.

For example, I’ve repeatedly told her that weekends are the only time I have to rest and mentally reset after a full work week. Despite this, she often allows my niece to stay over for long periods, including entire weekends, creating constant noise and overstimulation. This happens even after I’ve explicitly said I’m overwhelmed and need quiet. I’m not saying nor can I say my niece is not allowed here, but if the time can be cut in half I get home from work on Fridays after a full day, wake up on a Saturday morning and boom! Niece(2f) s coming here at 9am and leaving on Sunday evening.

Another example is the double standard between me and my sister. My sister is given freedom and support to live her life with very little responsibility since my niece is dropped here all the time for her convenience, while I’m expected to adapt endlessly, carry emotional weight, and never complain. When I express exhaustion, slipping and burnout, it gets dismissed

When I try to address issues calmly, nothing changes. The behaviour continues until I eventually react emotionally, at which point my reaction becomes the problem. My mother then portrays herself as the victim, tells others how hurt she is, and ignores the behaviour that led to the reaction. There are no apologies or attempts to change and the cycle just repeats.

I’m planning to move out with my son and, once I do, I intend to go no contact with my mother and not allow her access to my child. I don’t want my son growing up around constant boundary violations, emotional manipulation, and unhealthy dynamics.

my mother feels she’s entitled to a relationship with him regardless of my wishes. She frames my decision as me “punishing” her instead of acknowledging the ongoing issues.

So, AITA for choosing no contact and protecting my child after years of ignored boundaries and emotional pressure?
