What is at stake?
Until recently, I knew next to nothing about Iran, other than that American neocons hate the country. I was falling for the leftist narrative that it’s all about the oil, but only recently realized that there’s far more to Iran.
For one, I found out that Iran is special among the Middle Eastern countries, in that it’s a nation of freedom and western loving people kept hostage by a violent theocratic autocracy. If Iran had representative government, the West would have a hugely powerful ally in the region besides Israel.
Iran is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world. Although I thought that’s Saudi Arabia. IR falling would mean loss of funding for Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis just for starters. Meaning less enemies for Israel.
If I’m being honest, I’m mostly concerned about Ukraine. IR collapsing would mean a huge loss for Russian influence. It would mean that Ukraine would potentially gain a new important ally. Nevermind that Europe would find a new generous supplier of oil, further hurting Russia.
What else is at stake? What other things does the Islamic Republic do in the world that I don’t know of? I heard what AFAIK is only an Islamophobic conspiracy theory, that IR is responsible for the spreading of Islam into the west or providing positive PR to Islam in the west. So what other positive changes in the world can I expect when the Islamic republic collapses?
