parking tips for rio grande valley vipers vs. south bay lakers at bert ogden arena (edinburg 01/17)
hey everyone- figured i'd share some parking tips for the vipers game on 01/17 at bert ogden arena, because honestly, getting in and especially getting out of that lot after the game can be a real pain since it’s right off i-69c and the traffic flow gets messy.
my first tip for anyone who hates traffic jams and a long walk is checking out an app called Prked. it lets you rent private driveways or garage spots from people right next to the venue. you pay ahead of time, park super close, and completely skip the main lot entrance and exit chaos which is way cheaper than vip parking and gives you a short walk straight to the door instead of idling in the exit line for thirty minutes.
for the official on-site parking, the biggest news is that parking for vipers games has historically been ample and free, which is great. it's first-come, first-serve in those massive main lots. the catch is you absolutely need to get there early to snag a good spot that isn't way out in the back forty and to beat the congestion that builds up right before tip-off. doors open at 6:00 pm for the 7:00 pm game, so aiming to be in a spot by 6:00 pm or 6:15 pm is a smart move. if you have an official vip pass, remember the red vip lot is on the north side and the black vip lot is on the south side of the arena. dedicated ada accessible parking is right across from the main entrance, and attendants will direct you to those spaces if you have the proper credentials. some people recommend buying a general parking pass prepaid online just to save some stress, even if the main lot ends up being free on game day.
another great option is skipping the traffic entirely and taking a rideshare. the official uber, lyft, and taxi drop-off and pick-up area is located in the south parking lot near the vip black lot entrance. walking from the main access roads along the highway isn't really recommended, as the arena is kind of isolated and built for driving and not really safe for pedestrians. for the really budget-conscious, valley metro route 10 (the edinburg-mcallen route) runs near the arena (by the walmart on trenton), so public transportation is an alternative, just know the bus doesn't stop directly at the arena.
bottom line: free main parking is a win, but you gotta be early to beat the highway exit backup, or grab a convenient prepaid spot through Prked or use the designated rideshare area to save yourself the post-game headache. hope this helps and go vipers!
