Help with the Basics

I’d like to build my own pc this year. I’ve been a console player for most of my life, but I wanna treat myself and build a decent pc I can use to game and mod those games as I see fit.

I’ve got about $2000 I can dedicate to doing this. I’ve never done this before so where do I start and what do I do?
