My ex (M33) told me (F36) he got diagnosed with Schizophrenia. I still love him. Any advice?
Sorry if I’ve mentioned my story here before, but I need to write it again:
He is the sweetest, kindest, and most intelligent man I’ve ever met.
He proposed to me a few weeks ago. He wrote a detailed plan for how we could make this work. He said we were meant for each other, that I complete him, that we’re compatible.
He said “You’re my raison d'être.” He said “What did I do to deserve you?!”
He told me “Fly with me.” He was thinking we would get married in March, since he needs to fly back to the country where he works.
But about 2 weeks after the proposal, and after I said yes, he ended the relationship. He said his mother is against the marriage because I’m older than him. I’m 3 years older.
I suspected he might also be worried about finances. I don’t know. But this shattered me.
About 2 days before we broke up, he told me he had started taking antidepressants for depression and sleeping pills for his insomnia.
I tried to stick to the no contact rule, but some days I feel so worried about him that I text him. He seems to be happy when I text him.
Today I texted him, and we found ourselves reacting with red hearts like we used to.
But he told me a new update: he said he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
I wonder if his schizophrenia had something to do with the sudden breakup. What do you guys think? And do you think I should keep checking in on him, even though he put me through this?
