Tame beast Amazon help?

I’ve been playing a lightning spear amazon on the second wind league and really enjoying it as a fairly new player. Using primal strikes as a boss tool and lightning spear with herald of thunder for clear. I’ve always really liked pet classes, particularly melee ones.

Is tame beast something that can be decent without investment into companion nodes on the passive tree? Is there an Amazon build that could better use this? How does one find which beast to tame?
