Own a BC and family is getting sick of him (vent)

Advice

Lowkey crying while making this bc I just feel so bad and need to get this off my chest so here goes.

I own a BC, pure bred, I’m 17 and live with my parents. Long time ago weekend a cavalier and not too long ago we owned a BC mix but she was quite old. Now, my point with saying that is, I’ve had semi experience in dogs but I’ve read a lot about the. Body language + researching different breeds of dogs.

I genuinely don’t know what I was thinking. I knew better than to want to a purebred BC. I’m the only one in my family who knows a lot about dogs and has made research about them. So I thought it would be easy. But the reality is so much different.

I don’t want to hear comments about “you knew what you were doing” because trust me, I’ve berated myself too much to care.

He’s 6 months old and I love him dearly, and I’m trying my best to train him but I haven’t even had experiences in training. Only researching. He’s driving my mom crazy bc he’s high maintained OF COURSE HE IS. I know that. And sorry for rambling all over the place but she gave me a 2 year limit on owning the dog. And after these 2 years if he’s “still misbehaving” he’s going on a farm. I feel so bad bc I’m a dog lover. I love them. Just how can she say that? She constantly tells me every fucking day how much she hates him and how tiring he is. It’s genuinely NOT boosting the morale on my end.

I’ll admit I have been slacking off in regard of training and walking, the reason why is because I’m studying marine engineering and it’s a lot of work. BUT—it’s not an excuse, I’m just giving context.

But the last few days I’ve gone on extra walks with him, gone to a dog park (I live in a small town so no one ever goes there) and just walked while he runs around and sniffs. And I’m trying my best to train him, even if it’s something simple as staying and waiting until I say so, I forgot what it’s called.

But the thing is if he leaves after those 2 years I’ll feel like a fucking failure bc I couldn’t take care of a dog. I wannabe able to take care of him I just need some advice. Tomorrow I’m gonna go to the dog store and buy a licking mat for him/kong—whatever I can do to stuff in the freezer and give him because he has destroyed many things in the house and my mom is not happy.

Trust me I get her frustration, I do, but nothin changes if she complains to me all day, everyday how much she hates him? Like he’s just trying his best and I just need to get better I don’t know how I’m so lost. I just over-estimated how “good” I was at training dogs.

I’m not asking someone to coddle me, but I’m also asking not to fucking berate me because I know how Reddit can be. How everyone takes everything as black and white. I’m just asking you to put yourself in my shoes. I don’t want him to leave. And I wanna be better instead of shutting down bc I’m tired from school. I’m trying to promise myself this year to do better.

Thanks in advance
