Cobra 75 All Road and high SWR

I bought a Cobra 75 All Road for fun - I've been doing some 4 hr drives between Boston, MA and Stowe, VT and thought I might use the radio from time to time during the drive but my SWR is 3+.

I've the Cobra 75 wired up, the antenna set-up on my hood using an LED light bracket on the hood hinge. I am currently trying a NMO low profile connector for the antenna wire, an adaptor on top of the NMO connecter for a 2ft Firestick CB antenna. I grounded the NMO connector to the frame under the hood (scratched off some paint for good contact).

Signal coming in seems to be ok but the SWR reading on the Cobra 75 display shows 3+. I've got WAY to much wire from my antenna (16ft and I only need 3 or 4 ft) under the mat but any other thoughts as to why I can't get the SWR down before I cut the antenna wire down? I have played with the adjustment screw both ways on the Firestick but that doesn't seem to be changing much....

Thanks for the help!
