This morning's reading:

Some people in your life are not waiting for you at the top, They're waiting for you at the bottom, and not to catch vou - to confirm that vou belong there with them. This is a brutal truth, and Im not writing it to make you paranoid about the people who love you. Most people are not actively plotting your failure. But some people - maybe without even realizing it - are deeply uncomfortable with vour success.

Friedrich Nietzsche described this as "ressentiment" - a French word he borrowed to describe a specific kind of resentment. It's not straightforward jealousy. It's deeper. It's the bitterness that emerges when someone feels inferior but can't admit it, so thev reframe their position as morally superior. They're not failing; they're "keeping it real." They're not stuck; they're "content with what they have.'" They're not envious; you've changed." You've changed. Those two words have ended more relationships than any direct conflict ever could. Because they sound like an observation, but they're actually an accusation. Thev're saying: You were supposed to stay who vou were. You were supposed to remain small enough to fit in the space I had for you in my life. You broke the unspoken agreement.
