New 2.5yo Cat Won’t Stop Suckling on our Blankets

Behavioral

So we adopted a new cat a few weeks ago (2.5yo neutered male). We already have another cat (5yo neutered male) who gets along great with the new cat.

The main issue we’re running into is that the new cat will not stop suckling on our blankets every single time he lays down (it’s not “sin biscuits” sorry for the weird term but not sure what they’re called). We have given him his own blanket which he will sometimes use, but most of the time he ends up doing it to our blankets ALL over them. I’m not talking one spot; he’ll do it for 15 mins and move spots multiple times, drooling as well. This wouldn’t be so much of an issue if he settled down and slept after doing it. But he doesn’t. He just gets up and leaves the bed after putting wet drool spots all over the blankets.

We understand this is a self-soothing behavior and are fine with him doing it anywhere but the bed. I know keeping him out of the bed may be the only option, and I understand some people don’t agree with trying to stop this behavior. But it’s driving us crazy. Trying to sleep with him constantly walking around, making biscuits and random wet spots all over the blankets every night makes it impossible to sleep.

We’re just looking for advice on how to maybe redirect him or tips to get him to settle down in bed? Is it possibly because he’s still adjusting to a new environment?
