My Moniter won't turn on

When I plug in my monitor to my previous graphics card it boots up as normal and I can see my screen and everything. I just bought a new graphics card and when I plug it my monitor into the new graphics card it does nothing. My monitor even says that the HDMI I plugged it in through is inactive. What is going on that could be the issue?
