made an AITA post and the responses were mad triggering
i’m 18 and my brother is around 26-30. basically, as a child my brother abandoned me after my mom and my dad (not his) died and completely ghosted me. i’ve reached out for years and he never responds. eventually after thinking about it i just decided fuck him, but i made a post asking if i WBTA to keep trying to reach out to him for closure.
got a range of answers, anywhere from:
-
he doesn’t owe you anything
-
you’re harassing him
-
your dead parents are abusive (untrue)
-
he was parentified, you should feel oh so bad for him
-
you’re holding him back
-
you’re a reminder of his trauma / grief
-
he just “isn’t ready yet”
all bullshit. people abandon you because they want to, not because of some mystical empathetic reason. he was lazy and didn’t want to help anymore and i fucking hate him for that. the day my dad died, i was fifteen, he knew and just blocked me.
which is fine, that’s his choice. but it’s also MY choice if i want to hate him and never reach out to him or accept when he reaches out to me. why should i care? why would i ever foster a relationship like that, one now based off hatred? im not some character in his life to be brought back when he feels like he fucked up.
i got like hundreds of comments just bashing me and praising my shit useless brother and it kinda sent me over the edge, i hate this app.
