Skipped one dnd session because i was sick and DM probably won't level up my character
So, we have a pretty big dnd party with 8 players but we still manage to meet up every month. Some days ago we decided to meet on a Friday to continue our long campaign, but I got a flu 4 days prior. I wrote to our group chat that I'm not sure if I will be able to participate and I proposed that maybe I will be present via discord call or something. Still I thought maybe, by some miracle, I would get better until then. I was wrong. I wrote to them and asked a close friend to play with my character if something happens and when they were all ready the same friend called me through discord. I barely heard some things but I was attentive and understood what was happening most of the session although I couldn't be a active member I was still there (they used my character as throwing bag with my agreement ant that was it prob). At the end of the session I hear the DM say "You are all leveling up!!" and pretty much everyone cheered. The friend that was playing my character and had me on call asked me if I heard and asked the DM if I was also leveling up since I wasn't present. The DM and some other players with a kind of mean tone (or maybe it was the call that distorded their tone) said "You should have come" and the others said "Oohhhhh". I was shocked ngl but I said "The DM decides" and ended the call on that. So, I would have been OK if I wasn't leveling up, beeing in different levels often makes the game more interesting and dynamic but.... the accusatory tone like I got sick on purpose, that didn't sat right with me at all. Also, other people also skipped some sessions but somehow that is not brought up at all.
Now I'm asking myself if I should write to the DM in private and ask if I can or cannot level up or just come to the next session like nothing happened. Advices are greatly appreciated!!!
