Kiri and Eywa - Religious Reference?

SpoilerDiscussion

DISCRETION! SPOILERS AHEAD:

A fan of the franchise since 2009, I watched A3 last week in theaters and I’m still processing it. What I mainly want to focus on is Kiri and her connection to Eywa in Spider’s revival scene.

When Spider’s oxygen mask runs out, Kiri connects her kuru to the roots and there’s a pulsing heartbeat of Eywa coming through. Each beat made Kiri react and it felt very intimate. I don’t want to say it was meant to be inappropriate, because this was visualized in a spiritual-earth-connection context, but I couldn’t help but feel a little unsure if that scene was necessary to play out that long. Especially since Kiri is a teenager, it just felt like that didn’t need to linger.

I do understand it furthers a very deep and intense connection between Kiri and Eywa. Was Kiri experiencing something like a religious ecstasy from Eywa?

It’d be just as powerful even without putting a sort of ‘ecstasy’ vibe to it. It reminded me of Neytiri’s mother when she was chanting and trembling during the attempt at transferring Grace’s soul to her Avatar, there was something that looked like a greater force was taking over her body and channeling through.

Just curious if anyone else felt or thought similarly about this scene in A3. Regardless, I think Kiri would be an amazing Tsahik one day if her character is headed for that.
