Grieving over a place
There was this huge indoors theme park in my country, that has been closed for a decade now. Me and my family used to go there every summer vacation, driving for hours (it was in a beach city far away), and I went through all of the rides. I loved it so much, every line, every ride, every section… until the park was closed for the night.
It started to hold a huge space in my heart, and I stopped going there when I was about 14 years old. But in the back of my mind I thought - well, it still exists, right? The park was closed permanently when I was 16, and I’ve heard about it only a couple of years later. I felt terrible that I can’t go there again, but I tried to make myself accept it. It’s just a place, after all, that’s what people said…
But ever since it was closed, I can’t stop thinking about it. As the time passed I thought about it more. Every time I’m in that city I walk around the ruins of the park, take pictures of it, and stop and stand in front of it in silence. I started searching for youtube videos of people who went there when it was open, watching them over and over again, trying to remind myself of every detail so it won’t be forgotten. I also tried to map the place, to draw it, and to rebuild some of it on a 3D software (I’m very bad at it, but I’m trying).
I just can’t get over it. The thought of never being able to go there again brings tears to my eyes and aches my heart, yet I can’t stop thinking about this place. I feel like I’m grieving, yet I’ve never heard of someone mourning over something like this. I recently started dreaming about the park too… I don’t know what I can do. How can one get over it? Is it even possible?
