The New War was so brutally unfun it made me quit the game
I started playing Warframe around the middle of 2025 after having it recommended to me several times over several years. I'm not sure why I never tried it previously, but once I did I was hooked. "Run fast, shoot things" was a game play loop I constantly craved more of.
I was good little Tenno, doing my quests as they popped up. Once I had about 70 hours in the game it came time for me to do The New War. I was warned by the game itself and several of my friends that once I started it I would have to finish it, but I didn't realize how ominous those words truly were. The New War is basically an entirely different game that you have to play for several hours to get back in to the game we're all familiar with.
I'm not sure who thought it would be a good idea to make so much grueling content where you didn't play as a Warframe in a game called Warframe, but the entire quest was frustrating at best from the start. There were two parts in particular that really got to me:
-
The part where you play as Teshin is an accessibility nightmare. I'm green-red colorblind and having to color match my attacks was literally impossible. The only way I was able to clear this part of the quest was because I streamed to a friend who called out which element I needed using numbers. A quest that you're required to play solo should not require teamwork like that. How hard is it to use symbols instead of colors in this day and age?
-
The drifter sections which were heavily focused on stealth in a game where stealth is basically always optional. Spy missions were bad enough but now I'm stuck doing unending spy missions using a character with a health pool so small they can't power their way through it at all.
Ultimately, the final straw for me was when I spent over an hour trying and failing to make it through the Fortuna stealth section. I closed the game and never went back. That was almost three months ago now. Every so often I'll get the itch to run fast and shoot things again, but then I remember that I'm literally not allowed to. My account is stuck in a permanent limbo state of requiring content I'm too incompetent to complete and too apathetic to even try to learn. I'm halfway tempted to make a new account and start playing that one because re-unlocking all of my Warframes, weapons, and mastery ranks would be significantly less frustrating than trying to finish this bastard of a quest.
